Mission: The Learning Choice Academy (TLC) is a K-12 public charter school with locations in Chula Vista, La Mesa, and Scripps Ranch. TLC’s mission is to empower students to reach their full potential by providing choice in education within collaborative triads of parents, students, and school.

History: TLC was founded by a group of educators in 2004 in direct response to the needs of parents and students who were struggling within traditional schools. The goal was to create a school that was flexible and caring enough to empower all students to reach their full potential. Since 2004, TLC has grown from one school site serving 350 students to three school sites that serve almost 1,000 students.

Educational Program: TLC utilizes a hybrid-homeschool model, which incorporates both school and parent involvement in educating students. Families can choose between a 100% Homeschool Program or a Hybrid Program, which includes three days at school and two days of homeschooling. Every TLC student is set up to succeed through direct support from teachers and a personalized learning plan that meets their academic and personal needs. This prepares students for college, career, and beyond.

Success: Through its personalized, flexible, and caring approach to education, TLC helps students who have not been successful in other environments. For instance, 96% of parents say their child’s progress has improved since enrolling at TLC. In addition, TLC has a 99% attendance rate, a 0% suspension rate, and a 90% graduation rate.
